Meatpaper and Blue Bottle Coffee will be providing “coffee-inspired charcuterie” and “meat-inspired desserts” to kick off the Now Playing event series at SFMOMA 3/18 from 6-8PM. The event is free with half price museum admission. Tasting plates are $5 and yes, there will be bacon! Partygoers can enjoy live entertainment & various art projects along with cocktails & hors d’oeuvres every Thursday after that through April 15th. The Blue Bottle and Meatpaper plates will be available in the Rooftop Garden.

Bacon Hits the Spot... or Marks the Page??

I personally have found plane tickets, metrocards, receipts, photos, postcards—even a clover—in second hand books. Never have I been so lucky as to find a slice of bacon! Artist Dan Thompson has been finding and collecting all kinds of odd and interesting things used as a bookmark in library books. They are now on display in Worthing’s main library. The bacon itself is not in the showcase, however, you can download your very own bacon bookmark here (minus the inevitable mess).

Pig Party Recap

This past Sunday I went to 3rd Ward’s Pig Roast & Dance Party where I did not have any pig and to my knowledge there was no dancing. Butcher Tom Mylan of Diner, Marlow & Sons, and Bonita (or I should say formerly of...) was on hand to transform the 200 lb. pig into pork tacos. The line however was insanely long and was mostly outside where intermittent downpours left pork lovers (and probably the pork, I imagine) drenched. Mylan sliced off the tip of his finger in the process. I guess that’s what happens when faced with a mob of soaking wet, pig-hungry hipsters drunk on free Colt 45. Wouldn’t want them to simultaneously start whining... 

A no pig/no dance party is a bit of a disappointment. 3rd Ward however is a pretty interesting place with lots of great resources for the Williamsburg artist community. I got a tour of their facilities from the education director who told us about the different classes available as well as the story of their missing maintenance man. I also got a dude with a pig silkscreened onto my t-shirt for $1 so at least it wasn’t a complete let down.

Meatpaper: The Pig Issue

Issue 7 is out now!! Run out and get your copy today! Meatpaper is a fantastic magazine devoted to art and ideas about meat—and the latest issue is all about our favorite subject here in baconista land: the pig! According to Gothamist, there's an article on a new medical treatment called Bacon Therapy, a profile on Allen Benton of Benton’s Bacon (of PDT fame and highly recommended by Mr. Cutlets himself), and a comparison piece on vegan bacon (is that even necessary??).

I love that the editors of this meaty mag (Sasha Wizansky & Amy Standen) are both skinny gals. I have a feeling that if it were run by two slovenly dudes it wouldn't be nearly as tasty. Kudos on the very elegant aesthetic, ladies! I want that Meatpaper tote!

Wake n’ Bacon

I hate my alarm clock (and I never listen to it either). Anyone that knows me knows that all one has to do to get me up is whisper "bacon" in my ear. This adorable, pig-shaped alarm clock has the same effect. The Wake n' Bacon by designer Matty Sallin gently wakes you with the aroma of sizzling bacon. You place a frozen slice of bacon inside the night before and it starts to cook 10 minutes before your wake time. The best part is, you have a slice of bacon ready to eat the moment you get up!
